The MIS Department was established in 1990. It is currently staffed by a manager, associate manager, systems analyst, programmer, a systems manager and a computer operator. In addition, there is a full-time consultant working on special projects. These are the major developments occurring in 1995:

The migration of our PRISM software system to the UNIX environment is complete. MWCIA working with the consulting firm of Intelligent Information Systems of Raleigh, North Carolina, in this migration. Preliminary testing shows a significant increase in the speed and greater reliability of our central computer system. We are confident the migration will result in lower long-range computer costs. The migration enables us to rewrite our system in a language that allows more rapid
application development.

In conjunction with the migration of our software, MWCIA has joined in a partnership with eight state rating bureaus to develop software packages tailored to the needs of data service organizations, such as a PC-based Unit Stat reporting software system called BEEP. This project, the Bureau Entry and Editing Program, will also be going into beta-testing in mid-1996.

Our "Fax on Demand" system permits authorized individuals to obtain faxed copies of Employer Rate Sheets and is entering its third year of service. It continues to service hundreds of requests per month. The touch-tone telephone service handles requests almost immediately, without human intervention.

Virtually all paper files have been moved and are being created on our optical document management system. Almost every employee is connected via their PC to this system. From a desktop workstation, any document on the system may be viewed, printed or faxed by any number of users simultaneously. All Unit Statistical card data will be on-line in 1996.

Our electronic Bulletin Board further enhances information exchange with our several interested publics. This Bulletin Board contains a data lookup service that allows users to get current information on Employer Ratings without intervention by MWCIA telephone operators and without the risk of permitting access to the corporate mainframe computer.
