Merit Rating

Minnesota statutes require that all assigned risks not eligible for experience rating must be subject to a Merit Rating Plan developed by the Department of Commerce. A total of 32,769 assigned risk files were eligible for merit rating in 1995, compared to 35,451 eligible in 1994. The factors used in Merit Rating were changed to replace the factor of 0.90 with a factor of 0.67 effective Oct. 1, 1995. The 1995 Merit Ratings were distributed as follows:

6,476 qualified for a Merit Rating of 0.67
24,655 qualified for a Merit Rating of 0.90
1,403 qualified for a Merit Rating of 1.00
232 qualified for a Merit Rating of 1.10
